The Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) plans to organize a rally to express its opposition to the impeachment efforts against Vice President Sara Duterte. This was announced during a broadcast on the INC’s media channel on Wednesday night.
The members of the INC are preparing to hold a rally to make it known to all concerned that the INC supports President Bongbong Marcos’s stance against the impeachment pushed by certain sectors, as there are many problems in our country that the government should prioritize.”
The INC also emphasized its commitment to peace, stating, “Ang INC ay para sa kapayapaan. Ayaw natin sa anumang uri ng kaguluhan na manggagaling sa anumang panig,” or “The INC stands for peace. We do not want any kind of unrest coming from any side.”
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has already stated that he does not support any plans for impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte. He pointed out that pursuing impeachment would not serve the best interests of the Filipino people and confirmed he had urged lawmakers against filing such complaints.
Currently, Vice President Duterte is facing two impeachment complaints. The first was lodged by an advocacy group on Monday, citing alleged corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other serious crimes, and was supported by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci CendaƱa. The second complaint, filed on Wednesday by over 70 representatives from various sectors, is based on alleged misuse of confidential funds and supported by the Makabayan bloc.
Rep. Joel Chua, chair of the House committee investigating the Office of the Vice President’s use of confidential funds, noted that impeachment discussions did not come up during a gathering of about 200 House members with President Marcos in MalacaƱang on Wednesday evening.
