Public Demand Extends 50th Metro Manila Film Festival

MANILA, Philippines — The 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has been extended by one week, now running until January 14, 2025, in response to strong public demand.

Initially scheduled to end on January 7, the festival’s extension allows more audiences to watch its 10 official entries in select cinemas across Metro Manila.

This year’s lineup includes a diverse selection of films: “My Future You,” “Uninvited,” “Topakk,” “Hold Me Close,” “Espantaho,” “And the Breadwinner Is…,” “The Kingdom,” “Green Bones,” “Isang Himala,” and “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital.” MMFF complimentary passes will remain valid during the extended period.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman and MMFF overall chairman Don Artes expressed gratitude for the public’s support, emphasizing the importance of showcasing Filipino films.

“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” Artes said.

The MMDA also expressed hopes for the 2024 edition’s box-office performance, aiming to match or exceed the success of 2023, which broke records with over ₱1 billion in earnings.

This extension reinforces MMFF’s role in promoting Filipino filmmaking and provides moviegoers with additional opportunities to enjoy homegrown cinematic talent.
