LAS VEGAS, United States — Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Mario Barrios faced off for the first time this week at the MGM Grand, both vowing to deliver an unforgettable clash when they meet in the ring this weekend.
Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) will defend his WBC title against Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs), who is returning to action after a four-year retirement. At 46, the Filipino boxing icon is seeking to defy the odds and prove that age is no barrier to glory.
“All I can say is I’m back,” Pacquiao declared during the final press conference on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
“My body is looking for it.”
The eight-division world champion admitted that the lure of boxing was too strong to ignore, despite concerns about his age and long hiatus from the sport.
Barrios Eyes Passing of the Torch
Barrios, a 30-year-old Mexican-American fighter known for his height and powerful jab, enters the bout as a -270 favorite. Confident and composed, he sees the match as a changing of the guard.
“It’s my time now,” Barrios said.
“We’ve been putting in some serious work. I’m ready for a war.”
Both fighters are expected to deliver an action-packed performance. Pacquiao is renowned for his speed and flurries of punches, while Barrios brings a height advantage and a calculated fighting style.
“Our job is to give enjoyment and satisfaction to fans, a real fight. Not a boring fight,” Pacquiao said, promising to be aggressive in their 12-round title bout at the Grand Garden Arena on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Barrios’ trainer, Bob Santos, expressed full confidence in his fighter’s preparation.
“Mario left no stone unturned for this fight. We’re ready for an all-out war. Toe-to-toe,” Santos said.
“I know it’s gonna be a hell of a fight against a living legend. But at the end of the night, you’re gonna hear, ‘And still [champion]!’”
Weigh-in and Expectations
The official weigh-in will take place on Friday (Saturday in Manila) and is open to the public.
Pacquiao, clearly energized and eager, summed it up simply:
